Description
AQUA SURE Small 56mm Bottom Drain and Dome Assembly
The AQUA SURE Small Bottom Drain and Dome Assembly is engineered to provide a high-efficiency, low-maintenance solution for pond construction. By drawing debris and solids directly from the pond floor, it helps maintain superior water quality by preventing waste from breaking down into fine particles.
Unlike pump-fed systems—which often shred debris into smaller particles that are difficult for filters to remove—a gravity-fed system transports solids intact into the filtration system for more effective removal. The 56mm outlet ensures a high flow rate, generating powerful suction to clear debris from across the pond floor.
Installation and Placement
- Bottom drains are positioned on the pond floor, ideally in the deepest area(s).
- Each drain consists of a sump set into the pond base and connected to pipework.
- Multiple drains may be installed in larger ponds to eliminate dead zones and prevent sludge accumulation.
- As gravity-fed pipework is typically laid beneath the pond and encased in concrete, bottom drains should be planned and installed during pond construction.
- For use with 56mm Solvent weld pipe (2″ waste)
Performance Advantages
- More efficient than internal pond pumps, which are prone to clogging.
- Handles larger solids without blockages or reduced flow.
- Provides consistent debris removal for cleaner, healthier water.
Construction Details
- The sump is supplied with a flange ring, which secures to the top lip.
- In liner-based ponds, the liner should be sandwiched between the flange ring and sump lip, sealed with a non-toxic adhesive for a watertight bond.
- In concrete ponds, the flange ring is not required. The sump should be set flush with the pond’s final rendered surface.
- A dome, positioned 2–5 cm above the sump, prevents smaller fish from entering the filtration system while ensuring maximum flow.
- The Bottom Drain and Dome Kit includes:
- Bottom drain sump
- Flanged ring
- Stainless steel screws
- Dome cover
- Height adjustor tube
- 56mmOD – 50mmID Reducing Bush
Pipework Recommendations
For maximum efficiency and reduced debris buildup:
- Run pipework as directly as possible.
- Where bends are unavoidable, use wide-radius curves to minimize flow resistance and maintain consistent performance.
